Mid Wales Refugee Action is a grass-roots organisation working to support refugees here in Mid Wales and in Europe, and raise awareness of the current refugee crisis.
We work with refugees in northern France
MWRA aims to support refugees by providing volunteers to help in camps and distribution centres in northern France, fundraise and collect donations such as clothes, bedding and other essential items.
We have organized many trips that have taken volunteers to the North of France where they have worked in distribution centres, the Calais jungle, La Liniere refugee camp (Dunkirk) collaborating with Kesha Niya, L’Auberge and others.
…and with Refugees here in Mid-Wales.
We also work closely with refugees here in Mid-Wales. We organise regular activities and support for refugee people who have been resettled in Aberystwyth, Newtown and around our area (working alongside AberAid and other local groups).
Fundraising and Awareness-Raising
Through our market stalls and stalls at local repair café events, fairs and music festivals in the town and further afield we raise awareness of the issues facing displaced people living in Northern France, the Italian borders, Spain and Morocco.
We had given to talks at festivals and events and to community groups. If you are in a group that would be interested to hear more about the work of MWRA and the situation for people who are leaving their homes and traveling to and through Europe please get in touch email@example.com
We take our fantastical fancy dress fundraiser Redress The Balance to festivals near and far.
We have held several music events focussing on and been generously supported by local musicians and organisers who have raised funds for MWRA at gigs and shows.
We organise regular film nights bringing people together and showing stories around displacement and migration with discussions afterwards and often offer food as well as a bar and raffle to raise additional funds.
We produce annual reports and keep people informed of the work we are doing and ways that monies and items donated are being used.
